MAGRITTE disait!

MAGRITTE disait un jour:
[MAGRITTE once said:]
[This is not a pipe]
Je me permet d'emprunter, d'élaborer, et dire:
[I allow myself to borrow, elaborate, and say:]
Ceci n'est pas un champ de guerre
[This is not a battlefield]
Ceci n'est pas une cible
[This is not a target]
Ceci n'est pas une légitime défense
[This is not self-defence]
Ceci n'est pas une résistance
[This is not a resistance]
Vous detruisez mon pays
[You are destroying my country]
Ceci n'est pas une déclaration d'amour
[This is not a declaration of love]

Inspired post. Well done, _z.

Over the last few days the news here in the UK has been focused on the alleged plot to blow up airlines in mid-air, so information on the situation in Lebanon has been patchy at best. However, this morning I heard that a UN resolution had been agreed on unanimously. Then, in the same breath, the newscaster said, "but Israel is expanding its ground offensive". WTF?!?

This is not an outrage.

And Israel triples its troops following the UN resolution.

red_ I am sorry for what's happening in the U.K this is crazy.

no i don't think they'll just stop even with the cease fire... it will get worse before it stops. and still it will not be a total cease fire. just like kids, they never stop fighting.

none/dxb, I didn't quite get that. are you suggesting that to me, this is not a resistance but to them it is? I know that it is "their" country as much as it is mine (mind you I don't like the spearation "their" and mine"), but this exactely why I think they did wrong, because it is OUR country... us Lebanese.

-Z!!! well done, i couldn't have put it better myself!!! would you tell me how to put a link to your site from my blog? i'm still new to this :)

red: i unfortunately agree with _z. i'm really scared for Beirut in the next few days - or more. I actually believe that what's happened here has been largely exaggerated to shift the focus of the media.. did you know that on the same day of the whole airport thing, there was a very large and decisive, bloody battle in Marje'3oun, a critical and strategic village in Beirut? and that around villagers were "escorted" out of their homes? and that they were actually attacked, and many killed, on the way out?

many in Beirut are saying that this somewhat weak UN resolution is now the cover that Israel needs to do whatever it wants... at least for the 7-10 days that it will take to deploy the international force.

it is an inhumane world that we humans live in.

i wake up scared everyday, and i'm in london. how are they waking up in Beirut?

Our governments in the UK and US like to keep us scared.

Deem, what you said about waking up scared is right on the mark. Crazy, isn't it?

i agree with none/dxb. saying it's OUR country is a nice idealistic view but sadly it's not true (and our history reminds us of that)
ils protegent leurs droits d'exister aussi..
but very nice post.

It IS Resistance!!!I don't know how those who don't call it resistance, get to sleep at night. Deep down, they all know it is resistance. What is the f-in description of that then? Ta' 7annak w 3ard 3adalet for 5 weeks?

did you write this comment before or after the latest speech mar?

Walla? "Deep down" I know? Mmmm... naja7.

it is resistance! I think it is the cause that is debatable. No?

It is Hezbollah being an Islamic party that makes it debatable. No?

Are you saying that Hezbollah cannot be considered a resistance NOW, or NEVER HAVE BEEN?

In your opinion, who among those who fought Israel can legitimately be called resistance?

Or are you saying that resisting Israel should never take a military form?

(welcome mee-hope you're doing well)

thank you all for your comments and contributions to our everlasting debate.
the important thing is that we may disagree about the ways-to, but we all are working for the "good" of Lebanon.
