The World in Flags.

I received this email, from a friend of mine back at UofT. Thank you Rania.
On another note, I chose to remove today, the black sign off our beautiful Lebanese Flag that I post in the index.

The Norwegian diplomat Charung Gollar was asked to present
The UN with a graphic showing the main problems in the world in 2004.

He presented a set of 8 pictures entitled "The power of stars" and was applauded for the simplicity of his idea.

In spite of having no pretension at all, his work was presented to participate to the Nobel Price of Politic Marketing.

Attached are the 8 pictures presented. Please click on the flags and read the legends...

Brazil was the most stunning, Columbia made me chuckle.
What was astounding about Brazil, is that it is one of the few countries, and the only country in South America that is self-sufficient (economically).
Who knows what 10 US Dollars can buy there. I don't know - do you?

zee was absolutely right, we are all stuck in our bourgeois ramblings, and can't remember what real misery is. The world is a sad sad place. cruel and unjust, and we don't know the least of it.
this is but a reminder. we shouldn't forget about them, and try and help each in their own way.

thank you for you comments my friends.
kate, cappuccino kid, and tideliar, thank you for dropping by; and welcome.

_z, bourgeois ramblings maybe but i always think since we're very very small.. we shouldn't think that big.. sometimes it's good to focus on one cause, one misery for that matter and i talked with zee about that. in our case it just happens that our lebanon is in misery.. it helps to feel so personal and close to the problem to try and help in any way you can. we helped with our ramblings in our way the people who read..till we're able of helping in another way, this is good :)

i noticed for example chomsky was reluctant on talking about lebanon. he's always focused on the palestinian problem. it makes sense.

Thank you Rouba...

Mirvat I agree, sorry I didn't make myself clear, bu when I used zee's expression (again), I did not mean our writing and our concern with Lebanon. Of course one's country comes first (when in need). However I was talking about our (or my) childish stupid every day naggings. that's all!

I have no doubt that our ramblings did help... and I don't want us to stop, however, and no matter how small we are, I just cared to remind whoever is interested in remembering, that there are THOUSANDS dying EVERYDAY (we had one thousand die in a month), not due to war, not do to natural disaster, but due to poverty and malnutrition, and even lack of... and that, to me, is inadmissible in the 21st century...

This is just a reminder to whoever is interested in remembering. I am not trying to preach or tell you what to do. far from that. I too, sit in front of my 1000$ machine, drink my wine, eat my meal and nag about how hard my day was...

When one part of the world have NOTHING to eat, and the other part is taking pills and Vitamine supplements...well something is wrong...

Oh it is late, and I am waisted.
I just quickly want to say, concern - concern - concern ... what else, hmm
Mirvat, oh I don't know what to say anymore
_Z_ , I like your ramblings.

Great post.
The info you got by mail are wrong. There is no Nobel Price of Politic Marketing. There is no Norwegian diplomat called Charung Gollar, and the campaign is not called ‘The Power of the Stars’. This was all invented and is going round the world via email.

thanks anon,
you may be right, the email info may be wrong, but that doesn't change anything does it? Everything else (about the countries) still is absolutely true and real.
