The Lebanese Diaspora.

I received this by email today. I thought it was a pretty cool informational sheet, although I really really hate the graphic... (very childish and kitschy).
hmmm I could re-do it the way I think it should be presented... maybe another time.

It is self explanatory I think. The grand total of the Lebanese in the diaspora is about 12.5 million, and the population of Lebanon comes close to 4 million. (these are the legal ones)

Just one question though: What the fuck are we doing in the Philippines?

What an interesting chart. There seems to be a connection with South America. Do you know why so many of your countrymen head that way? Is there a historical link with Brazil, for example?

Also, pity those 1,500 Lebanese who found their way to Iraq -- surely things can't be better there than they were back home...

I am not sure I have a good and smart answer for you. All I know is that Lebanese immigration started with Latin America and namely Brazil. That's since the beginning on the century and actually even way before.

I am not sure why they chose there... smuggling maybe I don't know. But Lebanese have been in Latin America for years now, and we have a huge community, that is doing pretty well on the economical level... we even have presidents there now...

maybe a reader would be able to explain better.
