In her eyes.

I would like it if for a day, I could see life through her eyes. Inhabit her soul, and through her eyes grasp how she perceives the world we live in, as we share days in days out; colors, landscapes, depth, dimension, scale, perspective... and me.

My wish unfortunately will remain a wish. And I can only capture and use the reflections "in her eyes" and hope that one day my blue sky will shy in their pure yet sophisticated blackness.

Mushaboom - Feist

«Le cadrage, la beauté des couleurs et l'originalité de l'image quant à la représentation d'un des jardins de Flora ont fait en sorte que «in her eyes» est la photo gagnante de cette édition 2007 du concours».

The framing, the beauty of the colors, as well as the originality of the image and the portrayal of one of Flora's gardens have all contributed to make "in her eyes" the winning photo of this 2007 edition of the competition.

This above picture was my first ever submission to a photography competition...
And guess what?
I won!
I had submitted more than one photo, and to be perfectly honest, the photograph that ended up winning the competition wasn't my favorite of the bunch. But what the hell, why am I even arguing and nagging when I actually won the thing!

Every year, Montreal organizes a showcase of experimental, "avant-garde" gardens, and ephemeral installations as part of the "International Flora Exhibition". In 2006 I had designed an installation that remained showcased for 2 years. This year's edition of Flora held a competition for the best picture in the show. "In her eyes" is not a photograph of our garden unfortunately, but it features "La Cathédrale de Bamboo" by Fabien Dreuil, Florian Fiebig, and Boris Pintado.
Lyric: Mushaboom, by Feist

Helping the kids out of their coats, But wait the babies haven't been born oh
Unpacking the bags and setting up, And planting lilacs and buttercups oh
But in the meantime we've got it hard, Second floor living without a yard
It may be years until the day, My dreams will match up with my pay

Old dirt road, (mushaboom, mushaboom)
knee deep snow (mushaboom, mushaboom)
Watching the fire as we grow (mushaboom, mushaboom)

I got a man to stick it out, And make a home from a rented house oh
And we'll collect the moments one by one, I guess that's how the future's done oh
How many acres, how much light, Tucked in the woods and out of sight
Talk to the neighbours and tip my cap, On a little road barely on the map

Old dirt road, (mushaboom, mushaboom)
knee deep snow, (mushaboom, mushaboom)
Watching the fire as we grow, (mushaboom, mushaboom)
o-o-o-o-old (mushaboom, mushaboom)
Old dirt road rambling rose, (mushaboom, mushaboom)
Watching the fire as we grow, (mushaboom, mushaboom)
Well I'm Sold...

i just realized that we all got to know eachother so well over the blogs but we don't really know anything about eachother.. like i know what colors zee likes an what pisses him off, what makes mar cry, how laila is feeling, and what moves you to the core but i don't know what any of you is doing, planning on doing .. isn't it wonderful?

Interesting Jardin...Very beautiful photo! Yes, why are you nagging ;)

As for seeing the world through her eyes, I always wish to see the world through certain people's eyes... How different would the experience be?

Nice shot. A few questions if I may:

1-Did you get it from the first try?
2-Was the text part of the submission?
3-Do you often submit your work in Montreal? (I'd like to go see some expos.)

a picture alone is just beautiful colors and a creative frame...

but the title and the meaning you put in it makes all the difference!

Congrats dear!

isn't it amazing! almost 2 years now. I AM SO HAPPY YOU GOT BACK TO BLOGGING...It is not as much fun without you... (this is why I kept on nagging)
I still remember the collage of words you had posted during the July war... you called it "Lebanese Whispers" remember that one!!! we do know a lot about each other...
there it is... I found it hehe...
Lebanese Whispers.

thank you very much my dear friend.

It would be great, and I too have wondered many times... what if?

thank you... we're competing aren't we? who's camera is best and who's the better photographer and all... Your photos are amazing, i have to rise to your level now...

super dude_
thanks mate

1. Actually and honestly, yes. This one was from the first shot. But the style of the photo is not something new to me. Wife and I chose these sunglasses because they reflect well light and color. I have a big series of those shots (in her eyes or in her sunglasses), featuring different landscapes and subjects... I should post a few... On the same day and in the same show, I have a series of these shots for other paysages. but strangely (and I checked again), this one was a one shot one kill. but if you look closely, you'll find that I should have taken another... a bit of my hair is showing, and I should have moved further away from the frame, or just go totally inside it...

2. No there was no text submitted for the competition. Literature is for blogging purposes.

3. No I don't. This is the first time in Montreal. I don't have the right contacts, and maybe not enough talent or originality (singularity)...
I did exhibit 14 of my photographs in an art gallery in Toronto, but that was when I was studying there... and that's being invited by faculty and activists...

If I get lucky one day, I will let you know.
thank you for the encouragement.

Thanks for posting the lyrics to this song. I knew a version of it by Bright Eyes, but had never really listened to what it says. It's quite lovely, isn't it?

And that's a really great shot, but then I've come to expect only the best from you, photographically speaking!

I don't know the Bright Eyes version, but these days I find that I am liking Feist's voice a lot.
and you're welcome.

thank you for your kind words :)
