The Lachenaie Series: Time / April 08 / Lachenaie, Qc. / Canon Eos Digital Rebel XTi - Uuuuft!
- What is it Emily?- I don’t want to study History anymore; it is boring.
- But what is history Em? It is this. What you and I are doing.- What do you mean?
- Everything. Everything we do, and every move we make is history. It is social disturbance. Our behaviors determine a situation, which with scale, magnifies to a social perturbation, and defines a society that makes History.
- So it is us? We are History?- Hehe, yes in a way we are. Picture us years and years away, being scrutinized by others like us but far, far away from us. A trip in time. I know I’ve previously said, that everything is a matter of scale, but with history, it is a mater of time.
Do you understand?
- What?
- No, nevermind. I was just… pfffft.
- Hihihi,,,- Get back to your books.
- I am on the Internet dude... Much faster.- Oh yeah how could I forget… the Internet…
A matter of time I tell you.
- Shhhhhht.

Pièce de résistance.
- Hey!- Heyyyyy Emily! Long time.- Hihihihi Yeah. I have a question.- Shoot.- Who were those people who burnt rubber tires and closed off roads because the electricity was cut off?- Well they are... I would like to say they are Lebanese.- Then how come not all Lebanese reacted the same to the same situation. I mean the power is cut all the same in pretty much all regions of your country right?- Right.
- And economically it affects everyone the same right?
- Right.
- So why?- I don't know. I can't say.- You also told me once that this part of the population does not pay their electrical bills to begin with. Correct?- Yes that's correct. They don't pay bills.- So how can you NOT pay your electrical bill, and then go on a demonstration condemning power surge and power failure. What do you call that?- Hypocrisy.
- What does that mean?- Resistance.- What!!! But you told me that "resistance" was a good thing, and that the opposition is always better than the loyalists.- Not anymore Emily. Not anymore.
- So you're telling me I should like the loyalists better now?- No no wait. Not just yet. I might change my mind, as they all change their minds daily.- I don't get it.- I don't either.
- You know, I don't like your country anymore. It is tiring me.
- It is tiring me too Em. It is tiring me too. But I still like it.- Hihihihihi.

BABY TALK.
Emily is imperfect, different, always eager to learn. and constantly asking difficult questions. She's extremely innocent, sweet, cute, and most importantly... she dwells in my head most of the time.

[...] Her:
hey do you mind if I walked on this side and you on that one?
Him:
what do you mean?
Her:
Can I walk on your left side?
Him:
... sure... but why?
Her:
that way you can fight off dragons with your right arm and protect me with your left...
Him:
... okay!
[...]
Her:
You know... I am tiny inside...
Him:
(choking on his food) WHAT?
Her:
I am so tiny, but I can eat big!
.... silence
Her:
I mean when it comes to food, I can eat like a monster.Him:
oh!
yeah yeah!
Her:
What's wrong?
Him:
no no, I agree. You're small and you have a big appetite, you can eat a lot.
Her:
hihihihi... yeah!
[...]
Her:
Hey, can you come with me to check out the "Human Body and Organ exhibition"?
Him:
Yeah it should be interesting, I was planning to go too.
Her:
Oh my God! I so want to go, but I am afraid to go there on my own...
Him:
Why is that?
Her:
I would be afraid... You know, it is weird that I am afraid to see something that is already inside me.
Him:
But fear too is inside you...
... silence
Her:
Wait I know you said something very smart here, I am just trying to figure it out...
Him:
Take your time.

Political Chocolate
- What’s wrong Emily? You called me?- Weird things keep happening to me. The other day I was eating a pack of Smarties, those tasty Chocolate pills you bought me. I rushed a bunch into my mouth… You know… like I saw you do the other day. A couple of pebbles fell to the floor. They were the orange pebbles.... What’s even weirder, is that every time I tried to put them back in my mouth, they fell again to the floor.
And I had a similar incident a couple of days earlier, when I was eating m&ms. I kept choking on the orange m&m.
It’s like I can’t swallow orange anymore! What is happening to me?
- Haha that’s normal! You’re healthy. You shouldn’t be eating any orange bullshit.
- Does that happen to you too?
- Of course. I don’t eat the color orange either.
- And Yellow?
- I stopped a long time ago.
- So what should I eat?
- Don’t worry too much about color. Focus on taste. In the end, they are all the same.
- But why are they all in different colors. It’s confusing.
- So you can be able to tell them apart; that’s sectarianism for you.
- What’s sectarianism?
- It is when you chose your chocolate by color and not by taste.
- And they all taste the same?
- Yes they are all the same chocolate.
- So why use colors then?
- Ahhhh…. I wish everyone was as sweet as you!
- So you’re saying I am sweet!
- But of course you are Em.
- Hihihi… good.
- Good night.

BABY TALK.
- But what does that have to do with anything?
- See, if tourists and expatriates don’t come back to their motherland for visits, holidays and vacations, tourism will start to fade. When they come back they spend money, they go out, like we do when we go back. They generate more income for restaurants, shops, and tourism in general… Do you know what income means?- No!- It means the money you make. So tourism in general makes more money; owners and people involved with this industry get richer. Then they spend more money in other areas and venues, or open up more businesses for people to spend again. - That’s way too complicated. - But it’s fun.- Where’s the fun in that?- You’re part of a cycle. You’re part of a society, a country, a world, a life, a planet and a world. …- Emily?- I like being part of a cycle.- Haha, everybody does! Everybody wants to be part of a cycle. - How many cycles are there?- Ohh, there are many cycles. - Name 5. - Euhhh… there’s the economical cycle, which I just described. And then there’s the historic cycle. Because history repeats itself, as I explained to you last time. Mmmm. The cycle of life itself… living and dying, you know.. and euuuhhh… oh enough learning for tonight! Lights out!- Oh you never want to tell me anything!- Oh you’re so difficult… You’re such a baby!- A cute baby.- Yes… indeed… a cute baby.- Hihi. Labels: a trip with Emily
